Volunteer Heros |
September 11, 2001 - A date that will remain in our
thoughts
for the rest of our lives and the lives of the children we touch.
This is what it must have been like for those who hear and read and
perhaps
saw the aftermath of Pearl Harbor. Scouting has always been there for
the
country in time of war as well as peace. We build leaders of good
character for the future. Then as now many heros have
emerged and our stories are full of their tales. Well the tale of
Troop One includes heros -- our adult volunteers are heros.
Without
them, there is no Troop One. This page is dedicated to those
adult
volunteers of Troop One who have helped these awards come to the scouts
and scouters listed below.
Troop One has the greatest adults in all of Scouting. But in partucular, this troop would not even exist if it weren't for the sacrifice of two individuals in particular. The Scoutmaster of Troop One will be forever grateful for the time and energy of Jim K. and Jerry K. While other wonderful adults have followed, their contributions would not have been possible without Assistant Scoutmasters Jerry K and Jim K. Gentlemen, my thanks and gratitude to you, my heroes. -- Steve Myers, Scoutmaster Troop One. |

![]() Established in 1931, the Silver Beaver Award is presented for distinguished service to young people within a BSA local council. More than 50,000 recognitions have been conferred to date. As with the Silver Antelope, a recipient must be a registered adult member of the BSA. The awards are bestowed at appropriate local functions. Silver Beaver Awards are presented on the basis of the number of units in a council. Houston M. |

![]() Recognition may be given to a youth member or adult leader where the evidence presented to the National Court of Honor, in accordance with prescribed regulations, shows that a significant or outstanding act of service of exceptional character was performed. The action taken need not involve attempts of rescue or risk to self but must put into practice Scouting skills and/or ideals. Recognition shall not be given where it appears that the action involved was merely in the performance of duty or the meeting of an obligation. The awards are as follows: The Medal of Merit may be awarded to a youth member or adult leader who has performed some outstanding act of service of a rare or exceptional character that reflects an uncommon degree of concern for the well-being of others.
