One & Crew 2001 Go to Thursday evening June 25 to Sunday June 28, 2009 Privately, a list of scouts attending and the adults accompanying them on the DC trip is available. There have been some changes and the final list will be to you June 17 at the latest. Here are some highlights:

Thursday |
Depart from first Baptist by 7:00 PM and drive to Boy Scout Camp Conestoga/Buck Run. Directions (google maps) to Conestoga Camp Rd., Somerset, PA 15501 171 mi - about 3 hours 5 minutes The trip will
take about 3.5 hours including a dinner stop on the
way. We will
actually stay in the Camp Buck Run side of the reservation, which is
near Donegal. PA. Buck

June 26 Friday |
Depart Camp Buck Run for Greenbelt National Park EARLY (don’t you intensely dislike us morning people!). Directions (nps.gov site) and (google maps) to 6565 Greenbelt Road Greenbelt, Maryland 20770 185 miles - about 3 hours 23 minutes. Each
car-buddy group will make a quick fast food breakfast stop shortly
after leaving Camp Buck Run, and another quick lunch stop just before

We will setup our tents and then head downtown on the Washington DC Metro trains (Green Line). Metro Rail Web Site Greenbelt Station Archives-Navy Memorial-Penn Quarter Station Getting off at the National Archives we will see our Nation’s founding documents.

Then on to dinner at the Old Post Office Pavilion (a food court) See where we can eat using these cool coupons we have to buy in advance.

After dinner and
fun at the Old Post Office we will hike the National Mall.

June 27 Saturday |
After breakfast
in Camp, re-board the Metro train for the trip to the Museums,
including the Smithsonian Institution and the National Air and

We will remain
downtown
for dinner, once again at the Old Post Office Pavilion. Then back to
camp for a fine evening of skits around our campfire, including a
cracker barrel.
Scoutmaster’s
Challenge: Each walking
group must find an idea while downtown in a museum or a monument that
will inspire an entirely new, never seen before skit. There just might
be a prize involved (you never know). |

June 28 Sunday |
Get up and break camp.

Uniform: The Troop One
Scouts will be expected to be in full summer uniform on every day of
the trip. That includes Scout shorts and socks. Consider a second scout
shirt and at least two Troop One T-shirts or polo shirts. Crew 2001
Venturers: Wear the Venturing uniform if you have it. Otherwise you are
expected to wear Crew 2001 t-shirts and presentable pants (preferably
gray) every day; bring extra Crew t-shirts. Everyone will
need shoes/boots appropriate to long days of walking on pavement. Remember, we
will be representing Scouting at every turn. |
Eligibility:
Youth must be
registered members of Troop One or Venturing
Crew 2001. This
trip is not intended to
replace or substitute for Summer Camp and all Scouts are expected to
attend
summer camp.
Each Scout and
Venturer must have an annual medical form
with parts A, B and C completed and signed by parents and a physician.
All Scouts
& Venturers will be expected to show Scout
Spirit as a condition of the trip.
No
one has a right to go on the trip and every scout
must earn the
confidence of the adult leaders before being acceptable. The
Scoutmaster/Advisor may for any reason
refuse to take a member who isn’t living up to the scouting
ideals.
Deposit and
payments must be made on time to guarantee a
space in the contingent. Spots
in the
contingent will be based on the availability of transportation and
limits
imposed by the National Park Service.
Payment Schedule: $65.00 unless
you drive.

the trip. Drivers will
bear the cost of their fuel, tolls and parking.
The camping committee will determine the
contingent’s transportation needs and the number of vehicles. Each vehicle needs to be
capable of carrying a minimum of 4 people and all of their gear. Depending on your
car’s mpg we estimate the fuel, tolls and parking at
approximately $80. We
will not be able to refund of out of pocket costs. |

Reservations
are on a first-come, first served basis as the $30.00 reservation
deposit is
received. Fees are
transferable, but not
refundable once committed. In the event that the trip has to be called
off,
refunds of uncommitted funds will be evenly apportioned.
Financial Need
No youth should
fail to attend solely for financial need.
To get financial help you must see the Scoutmaster (for
the Troop) or
the Advisor (for the Crew).
